Facebook

So, I don’t know how many people use facebook but it’s usually four out of five people, sometimes the odds are higher with people between 14-30 or so. I suppose I’m rather guilty of ‘facebooking.’ Like googling, it’s also become a verb.

Uses of facebook:

  1. Connecting with people (Finding new friends)
  2. Planning events
  3. Playing games
  4. Talking to people (Posting on walls)
  5. Wasting time (Procrastinating)
  6. Chatting (IM)
  7. Wasting time (Not paying attention to other stuff)

There’s a large difference in ratio between the various uses, usually 5 and 7 get the biggest piece of the pie, followed by 4 and 6, and then 3, then 2, and lastly, 1.

I’m guilty of all seven, if I did other things, then they’d obviously be posted. The thing I find absolutely hilarious is two kids in a class with computers on facebook and talking to one another while they could simply talk to each other out loud. They’re already being rude and typing nonstop anyway. Also, none of these conversations are actually important. They mostly consist of OMG and LOL and some stupid gossip. Thankfully, I don’t do that since I enjoy actual talking.

One of my friends usually talks to others via her statuses which are usually pretty broad and hilarious. Another barely uses facebook for anything aside from planning events for hangouts and games. Another’s on facebook often, it’s her method of procrastination and doing something while in a boring class. Another friend uses facebook to make interesting posts/statuses. They’re rather philosophical and I enjoy reading them, they add to my day.

Anyway, I think people who spent 80% of their time on facebook are wasting time (facebook is most definitely a colossal waste of time). I limit my usage and don’t spend nearly as much time on it as I used to a couple years ago. However, I’ve got a friend who’s on it ALL the time – on his phone and on his computer – chatting away and then he wonders why in the world he’s doing poorly in his classes, it’s funny.

So, people, try to spend more time doing something productive instead of wasting away on facebook. Facebook won’t add more knowledge to your spongy brains and god knows we all need as much IQ as necessary. Facebooking is fun, just limit yourself. It ain’t necessary to have facebook mobile, nothing can be that big of a necessity.
